Cellist

Paul-Marie began studying the cello at the age of 6 at the Saint-Cloud Conservatory and continued his training in Boulogne-Billancourt with Xavier Gagnepain, who instilled in him a deep love for chamber music. After a year of advanced studies with Cyrille Lacrouts, he was unanimously admitted to the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in Jérôme Pernoo’s class. During his time there, he performed as a soloist and in cello ensembles in prestigious venues such as Salle Cortot, Radio France, and the National Library Arts Centre in Beijing.

In 2018, he won the international “Tremplin” competition and joined the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra Academy in 2019. He completed his bachelor’s degree in cello with highest honors and, in 2021, joined the Orchestre de Paris under the artistic direction of Klaus Mäkelä.

Since 2018, Paul-Marie has been a member of the Duo Ermitage with pianist Ionah Maiatsky. Together, they earned a chamber music bachelor’s degree in 2020 at the CNSMDP and began a master’s program under the guidance of renowned musicians such as Claire Désert, Itamar Golan, Jonas Vitaud, the Ébène Quartet, and François Salque. In 2022, they won the second prize at the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, as well as the Belle Saison Prize, which led to support and performances at prominent venues, including Les Bouffes du Nord in Paris.

In 2024, Paul-Marie and Ionah recorded their debut album, Ermitage, set for release in January 2025 with Scala Music. Paul-Marie performs at numerous festivals across France and frequently shares the stage with members of various Parisian and international orchestras. He has performed concertos by Dvo?ák, Schumann, and Brahms’ Double Concerto, including an upcoming performance in Paris on April 28.

Paul-Marie plays an Italian cello crafted by Ferruccio Varagnolo in 1901, a French bow by Eugène Sartory from 1910, and another bow by François-Nicolas Voirin from the personal collection of André Navarra.
