This concert brings together three major works of the Romantic repertoire, each highlighting the richness of instrumental dialogue and the distinctive expressive worlds of their composers.
The evening opens with Johannes Brahms’s Trio, Op. 114, a warm and introspective work in which clarinet, cello, and piano intertwine lyrical lines of great intimacy. Brahms unfolds a delicately shaded sound palette, filled with tenderness and gentle nostalgia.
Next comes Carl Maria von Weber’s Grand Duo Concertant for clarinet and piano. Virtuosic and theatrical, the piece showcases the clarinet’s agility and brilliance, supported by a sparkling, characterful piano part. Together, they create a moment full of energy, contrasts, and charm.
The concert closes with Felix Mendelssohn’s Second Sonata for Cello and Piano, a radiant and passionate work in which the cello sings with all the intensity of high Romanticism, buoyed by an agile and elegant piano.
